Your Second Strategy Session

  •   |   Meghan Freed

Your Second Strategy Session is a pivotal moment in your case. By this stage, we’ve gathered significant information—both from you and likely from the other side through discovery. This session is where we take stock of everything we’ve learned, refine our approach, and strategically position you for what’s next.

How This Session Moves You Forward

This isn’t just a routine check-in—it’s a critical strategy meeting designed to:

Assess where things stand – We’ll review key insights from the information gathered so far, including any new developments from discovery.

Identify any gaps or additional needs – If discovery raises new questions, we’ll determine whether further investigation is needed.

Refine your case strategy – We’ll adjust our approach as needed to maximize your position.

Evaluate advanced discovery techniques – If necessary, we’ll discuss using tools like appraisals, business valuations, or depositions to strengthen your case.

Revisit and prioritize your goals – Now that we have more information, we’ll reassess your priorities and help you balance time, legal costs, and the overall outcome of your case.

Prepare for the next phase – We’ll map out how we transition from Gathering Information to Stage 4: Crafting a Proposal, where we begin shaping solutions.

What to Expect in Your Session

During your second Strategy Session, you can expect a direct and focused conversation about your case. We will:

📌 Walk through the financial and legal picture that has emerged so far – You’ll gain clarity on how your case is shaping up based on the facts we’ve collected.

📌 Discuss any strategic shifts – If we’ve learned something in discovery that changes our approach, we’ll explain why and what adjustments we recommend.

📌 Evaluate advanced discovery tools – If there are areas where more in-depth analysis is needed, we’ll discuss the potential use of:

  • Appraisals (e.g., real estate, personal property, or business valuations)
  • Forensic accounting to analyze financial discrepancies
  • Depositions to gather sworn testimony and clarify contested issues

We can also discuss the financial investment versus potential benefits of these tools.

📌 Revisit your goals and set priorities – As we move toward resolution, we will help you define what matters most to you in terms of:

  • Time – How quickly you want to move through the divorce process.
  • Money – Balancing legal costs and expenses.
  • Outcome – The specific terms and results you want to achieve in terms of both money (property division, alimony, and child support) and parenting.

We’ll revisit the framework we introduced earlier to help you determine where your priorities lie and make informed decisions as we move forward.

📌 Answer your questions – You’ll have the opportunity to address any concerns and gain a clear understanding of where things stand.

📌 Lay out next steps – We’ll talk about what you can expect moving forward, including how we will start crafting a proposal and what role you’ll play in that process.

How to Prepare for Your Strategy Session

To get the most out of your second Strategy Session, we recommend:

Revisit and update your priorities in terms of time, money, and outcome – Your goals may have shifted as your case has progressed. Take some time before the session to reflect on what’s most important to you now. This guide walks you through how to do it.

Provide any outstanding documents or information – If we’ve requested documents or details from you, make sure they’re submitted before the session so we can use the most up-to-date information in our strategy discussion.

Gather any relevant updates – If there have been recent financial changes, new developments, or additional documents that might impact your case, please send them over to us.

Prepare any questions or concerns – If anything has been on your mind, jot it down so we can address it in the session.

What’s Next?

Strategy Sessions are about clarity, control, and strategy—so you have a firm grasp on your case, a refined approach, and a clear plan. While the Gathering Information stage may feel slower than earlier phases, this is the turning point where we shift from fact-finding to actively shaping your future.

By the end of this session, you’ll have:

A clearer picture of where your case and your priorities stand
A refined legal strategy
A prioritized plan that aligns with your biggest goals—whether that’s resolving your case quickly, managing costs, or securing specific outcomes.

This is where we set the course for what comes next.
