Maya Will – Attorney

You can’t get anything past Maya Will. She knows who did it within the first three minutes of any episode of Law & Order: SVU. And she’s always right.
Maya’s grandfather used to tell her she could “argue the fuzz off a peach.”
If Maya made up a new rule in their (regular) card games, her grandfather would require that she defend the position, and if she argued it well enough, he’d let it stand. Maya knew even back then that she wanted to be a lawyer, and there’s been no looking back ever since.
Maya spent every summer between undergrad and law school working in the law office of a dear family friend. Despite that friend spending each of those summers trying to talk her into any profession OTHER than law, Maya knew her course and continued on it. After graduating law school, Maya clerked in Bridgeport Family Court before transitioning to the legal department at the Subway world headquarters, serving as counsel. During Covid, Maya pivoted to real estate law, even hanging her own shingle, but ultimately was drawn back to family law, and when an opportunity at Freed Marcroft caught her eye, it was a natural fit, and she has felt right at home since day 1.
At Freed Marcroft, Maya appreciates the firm’s belief in discovering what the client really wants: Not just “a divorce,” but asking the right questions to help create that person’s ideal future. As someone with her own experience in divorce, she knows there are a lot of aspects that most lawyers don’t take into consideration, which deeply affect the client. Maya has taken on a commitment to delivering a better life to her clients and their families. In her role as a certified Guardian Ad Litem, Maya has a deep interest in representing and fighting for the rights of children in cases of family law. She believes strongly in advocating for people experiencing domestic violence and coercive control in their lives, and she is proud to be in a position where she can make a significant difference for these folks.
In college, Maya double-majored in Psychology and Public Relations, with minors in Italian and International Studies at Pennsylvania State University, where she was also a member of Phi Gamma Nu, Business Honors Fraternity. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac University School of Law. A lover of travel and culture, Maya studied abroad in Florence, Italy at Palazzo Ruccelli during her undergraduate program, and at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland during law school. She is a member of the CT Bar Association, Family Law sector, as well as the Milford and New Haven Bar Associations.
Outside of work you can find Maya entertaining her daughter, Mackenzie Sloane, and playing with their dog, Moses (she’s a girl!). In the fall, if there’s football on, don’t bother – Maya is busy cheering on her beloved Penn State Nittany Lions and the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to football, Maya loves Broadway (she knows every line of Wicked and Rent), country music, reading (particularly murder mysteries and Harry Potter), and – fun fact – she once won a Harry Potter trivia contest on a cruise ship for knowing what some might call an alarming amount of information about the series.
You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. – MLK Jr.
