Mary Herring believes that the first step is often the hardest, and the most important. As one of the first people clients speak with, she understands the courage it takes to reach out for help and is committed to making sure every person feels heard, supported, and understood from the very beginning.
After working in different service industries, Mary returned to school in 2021 to pursue her passion for helping others. She graduated summa cum laude from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023 with a degree in Psychology and a focus in Mental Health Studies. She accomplished this while working full-time, embracing the joyful role of stepmom, and preparing to welcome her first child.
Helping people has always been the common thread in Mary’s life. Her academic focus on psychology and mental health reflects her belief that meaningful support can truly change someone’s path. When the opportunity arose to join the team at Freed Marcroft, she knew it was the right fit, and it would empower her to support individuals and families as they navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Mary values the strong support system that shaped her upbringing and continues to influence her today. She believes growth isn’t always linear and enjoys helping people recognize their strength and potential, even during difficult transitions.
Outside of work, Mary is a proud mom of three boys and loves spending time with her family. She and her husband enjoy traveling to Vermont whenever they can to unplug and recharge in the mountains. As a family, they also enjoy playing disc golf, a pastime that started casually but has turned into a favorite family activity, filled with friendly competition, and plenty of bragging rights.
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine, and the shadows will fall behind you.”
