Laura-Ann Simmons
Laura-Ann Simmons is a Connecticut family law attorney with nearly three decades of experience representing clients in divorce, custody, and the full range of family law matters.
Laura-Ann successfully argued Sweeney v. Sweeney, a landmark case addressing a parent’s right to direct a child’s religious education, before the Connecticut Supreme Court. She was the subject of a feature article in The New York Times, “A Tug of War Over a Child’s Education” because of her success in Sweeney.
Laura-Ann earned her J.D. cum laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she was recognized for superior academic achievement resulting in an invitation to Law Review. While attending law school she had the honor and privilege of interning for the Honorable Sidney Landau in the Connecticut Appellate Court. Following graduation, she was employed by the Connecticut Superior Court and clerked for distinguished members of the judiciary including the Honorable Thomas Corradino and Barbara Coppeta. This early foundation that gave her a judge’s-eye view of litigation that she has carried throughout her career.
Clients describe Laura-Ann as someone who makes a genuinely difficult process feel manageable. “She provided me with professional guidance while walking me through my entire divorce process so there were no surprises,” one client wrote. “Her transparency and calm disposition helped me so much in a very difficult time.” Others praise her dual-sided approach: “Aggressive in court but kind to her clients,” one client noted, adding that she is “reliable, professional, understanding and compassionate.” Another described her as someone with “a tremendous heart” who “really does care.”
Laura-Ann was selected to the Connecticut Super Lawyers® list from 2021 through 2026. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Fairfield County Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association.
