Carla Zahner, Attorney
Carla knows a lot about sugar.
A first-generation American, Carla grew up working at her parents’ Portuguese/Cuban bakery in the Parkville section of Hartford, surrounded by cakes, bread, and pastries. So the irony was not lost on her when her daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the tender age of 17 months. Now Carla and her family are passionate supporters of and advocates for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and together they fight daily to stay healthy and give a voice to a disease the general population knows so little about.
Carla doesn’t sugar-coat it when it comes to her work for clients. She is a passionate advocate, who has been litigating for a majority of her legal career. Prior to focusing her practice on matrimonial and family law, Carla spent a number of years as an attorney for the Connecticut Office of Child Advocacy. In that capacity, she represented children in abuse and neglect cases. As the mother of two, advocating for the welfare of children has always been and will always be a top priority for the spirit of Carla’s legal practice.
Having spent more than a decade in Connecticut courts, Carla understands first-hand the benefits that alternative processes like collaborative law and mediation can have for children and families. In addition to her marital and family litigation practice, Carla is a committed collaborative divorce attorney.
Carla graduated, with honors, from Trinity College with a dual degree in Political Science and Spanish. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
She served as a board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Greater Connecticut and Western Massachusetts Promise Ball and is also one of the top yearly, non-corporate sponsored fund raisers for the OneWalk held annually at Rentschler Field.
When she is not taking care of clients or slaying diabetes, Carla enjoys spending time and traveling with her husband and two children and the family dachshund, Lolita.
